Arrowroot Powder

(Maranta arundinacea Root Powder)

A fine, soothing starch made from the tubers of the Maranta arundinacea plant. It is native to the Caribbean and South America, and now grown in tropical regions worldwide. Often harvested by hand, washed, grated, and carefully dried into a soft powder.

Benefits:

Bentonite Clay

(Montmorillonite)

A mineral-rich clay formed from aged volcanic ash. It is primarily sourced from ancient volcanic regions across the United States (especially Wyoming), as well as Greece, France, and India. Mined, sun-dried, and finely milled into a silky, absorbent clay.

A creamy, nutrient-dense oil cold-pressed from the white flesh of coconuts. It is derived from tropical regions including the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka. The oil is extracted from freshly milled coconut meat, then filtered for purity.

Jojoba Oil

(Simmondsia chinensis Seed Oil)

A golden, liquid plant wax pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis). It is native to the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, now grown in arid climates around the world. Seeds are cold-pressed to preserve nutrients.

Rosehip Seed Oil

(Rosa canina Seed Oil)

A restorative botanical oil pressed from the seeds of wild rose bushes (Rosa canina, Rosa rubiginosa). It is commonly harvested in the mountainous regions of Chile, Argentina, and Europe. Rosehips are collected after the petals fall, their seeds dried and cold-pressed.

Shea Butter (Raw)

(Butyrospermum parkii Butter)

A rich, velvety butter from the nuts of the shea tree. It is indigenous to West Africa — Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Mali. The nuts are traditionally hand-harvested, sun-dried, roasted, ground, and kneaded to extract the butter — often in community-led, women-run cooperatives (which is who our vendors are).

Witch Hazel

(Hamamelis virginiana Extract)

A botanical astringent made from the bark or leaves of the witch hazel shrub (Hamamelis virginiana). It is native to North America. The plant material is steam-distilled (alcohol-free versions) or macerated (alcohol-based extractions) to draw out its soothing tannins and antioxidants.

Zinc Oxide (non-nano)

(Zinc Oxide)

A naturally occurring mineral used in its purified powdered form. Zinc ore is mined worldwide with major deposits in Australia, the U.S., and China. It is then carefully purified and milled into cosmetic-grade zinc oxide. Non-nano refers to particle size large enough to stay on the surface of the skin.
